Newborn Safety & Choosing the Right Photographer for Your Family
Picking the right photographer for your family can feel overwhelming—especially when you’re trusting someone with your brand new baby. Newborn photography is about so much more than beautiful images. It’s about experience, patience, and above all, safety.
Your baby is not a prop. They are delicate, constantly changing, and deserve to be handled with the utmost care. While it can be tempting to choose a photographer based on price alone, it’s important to remember that cheap is not always best—especially when it comes to newborns.
Why Newborn Safety Matters
Newborns require specialized handling and knowledge. A trained newborn photographer understands:
How to safely pose babies without putting strain on their neck, joints, or airway
Which poses are appropriate (and which are not)
How to properly support a baby at all times
How to recognize signs of discomfort, stress, or overheating
How to soothe and settle babies gently and naturally
You may have seen images online of babies appearing to sit up on their own, rest on saddles, hang from swings, or balance on props. These images are composites, meaning multiple photos are safely edited together. At no point is a baby unsupported or in danger. A professional photographer will always prioritize safety over getting a pose.
Babies can startle easily and overheat quickly, so sessions should always move at the baby’s pace. Simply put—baby runs the show.
What to Look for in a Newborn Photographer
When researching photographers, here are a few important questions to consider:
Do they have specific training in newborn photography and safety?
Do they carry business and liability insurance?
Is their work consistent, polished, and natural-looking?
Do they provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment?
Do you feel comfortable and confident trusting them with your baby?
Experience matters. Newborn photography requires patience, calm energy, and the ability to adapt quickly. Not every baby will sleep deeply, love being posed, or settle easily—and that’s okay. A skilled photographer knows how to adjust while keeping baby safe and comfortable.
My Experience & Approach
I have been photographing babies for over 16 years. I’m not only a photographer, but also a mom—and now a grandma. I’ve invested in extensive newborn photography education, including multiple workshops and safety-focused training courses.
For me, safety is always the number one priority. Every session is unhurried, gentle, and completely baby-led. I carefully monitor baby’s comfort, temperature, and cues throughout the session.
When you book a newborn session with me, I take care of everything:
High-quality newborn backdrops and props
Professional wraps and accessories
Hair ties and simple outfits for baby
A clean, safe, and cozy studio environment
All you need to do is book your session. Together, we’ll plan colors, themes, and styling, and I’ll handle the rest—so you can relax and enjoy the experience.
Trust Your Instincts
Choosing a newborn photographer is about more than loving their photos—it’s about trust. You should feel confident that your photographer is trained, insured, experienced, and genuinely cares about your baby’s well-being.
If you’re expecting and searching for a newborn photographer, I would love to connect with you. My goal is to create timeless images while providing a safe, calm, and stress-free experience for both you and your baby.
✨ Your baby’s safety. Your family’s memories. Always handled with care.

Newborn Photography Safety: What Parents Should Know (Quick Guide)
This section is here to help parents find this information easily when searching online.
Is newborn photography safe?
Yes—when done by a trained, experienced, and insured newborn photographer who prioritizes baby-led posing and proper support at all times.
How do photographers safely pose newborns?
Professional photographers use gentle, supported poses and often create composite images for advanced setups so babies are never unsupported.
What training should a newborn photographer have?
Look for photographers who have completed newborn safety workshops, ongoing education, and hands-on experience.
When should I book a newborn photographer?
Ideally during your second or third trimester, as newborn sessions take place within the first 5–19 days after birth.
What should parents bring to a newborn session?
Nothing but your baby. I provide wraps, props, backdrops, and everything needed for a safe, comfortable session.
When is the best time to book your Senior Photo Session…
When is the best time to book Class of 2027 senior sessions?
Honestly… it’s never too early. But right now is the perfect time to start thinking and planning ahead.
Here are a few things to consider as you look toward your senior session:
✨ Season & Style
Think about the overall vibe you love most:
Bright, golden summer light
Warm, cozy fall tones
Moody early-winter looks (yes snow if we get some)
Your outfits often help guide the best season for your session.
📍 Location Inspiration
Start paying attention to places you’re drawn to:
Industrial or urban settings
Open fields or tall grass
Lakes, water, or natural backdrops
Downtown textures or clean, simple locations
When you book, we’ll choose locations together based on what you love — blended with my creative eye to highlight color, your natural beauty, and usually a little something extra fun.
👗 Outfits Matter (and We Plan Them!)
The more you share about your style, inspiration, or even Pinterest boards, the more personalized your session — and final gallery — will be. This is never a one-size-fits-all experience.

First blog post-testing!
I launched this new website a year ago… and yes, it has taken me that long to finally figure out the blogging part.
My old website was set up completely differently, and adding a blog post was so easy. This one? Not so much. So please bear with me as I find my groove here. Technology and I don’t always get along — which is kind of ironic since I’m a photographer and should probably be more tech-savvy than I am. But here we are!
I won’t shy away from a challenge, even if it takes me a while (and maybe a little foot-kicking and dramatic sighing along the way). Real talk: it took me a full year. But I’m showing up anyway. Doing it scared. Wondering if people will even read this. Let’s be honest — I’m not a writer. I always wanted to be, but my real gift is capturing moments, not typing them out.
That said, I have so many things I’m excited to share with you in the coming weeks — sessions, stories, updates, and all the beautiful moments I get to be a part of. I’m really hoping I’ve finally got this blog thing figured out… and that it actually works.
If you’re interested in booking a session with me, I’d love to hear from you! You can reach out by phone, Facebook message, email, or text — phone or Facebook messages are the best way to get in touch. I truly look forward to working with you and capturing something meaningful for you and your family.
Thanks for being here and for cheering me on as I figure this out! :)
I am still trying to figure out how to add photos. If I have any tech smart followers that know how to add them please get a hold me. Thanks so much!
